Save Our Shop
109 General Store and our sister cafe Heaton Perk have been instrumental in turning Heaton Park Road into the thriving hot spot it is now, but this has come at a price. Literally. Our landlords at the council have seen these improvements as an excuse to almost double our rent which is completely unsustainable for our little sustainable business. Oh the irony! Now, to us this seems to fly in the face of the council's promises to support local enterprise and is removing an essential eco-friendly shopping option at a time when we all need to be doing our part to reduce our consumption of plastic and packaging. We are the last refill focussed shop in Newcastle, with the loss of our wonderful friends at Nil Living and Something Good in the last few years, and we really want to stay and keep providing for our lovely community!
So, how can you help?
Well, we’d love it if you could write us a letter of support, reminding the council what an essential service we are providing, how we allow you to make more eco-conscious choices, how we help you eat healthily in a city full of fast food takeaway shops… or just how much you love us. There is a link below to a letter template and all of the details of where to send it.
